Everyone loved the TV show Family Matters. The show revolved around the Winslow family, a middle-class African-American family living in Chicago, Illinois. While neighbor Steve Urkel was the star of the show, many forget he wasn’t supposed to be the focus of the show and was introduced as a character mid-way through the first season. Key and Peele pump steroids into this fact in their most recent Family Matters inspired sketch on their show this week. Catch the hilarious sketch below:
The duo imagines how much aversion there must have been for Steve Urkel/Jaleel while taping Family Matters. The skit takes you to a scene in 1997 when Reginald VelJohnson (played by Peele) complains about the ways “Family Matters” has changed since Urkel became the lead role in the show. “This was supposed to be a blue collar Cosby Show,” VelJohnson screams. “Now you turn it into goddam Quantum Leap!”
