The FIBA World Cup comes around once every four years and the U.S. was ready for the moment. While the United States lost superstar Paul George to a devastating leg injury, the team still won every game by more than 20 points. The U.S. shot the lights out in the championship game against Serbia, knocking down 15 three point shots en route to a 129-92 victory. New Jersey native Kyrie Irving was on fire in the championship game, hitting 6 of 6 three pointers to bring home tournament MVP honors. “He made so many plays and kept the pressure on their guards to defend him,” Stephen Curry said of Irving. “He gave us what we needed, him and James [Harden] in the first half, to open up the game.”
On the other hand, various international players also blossomed during this year’s tournament. Giannis Anteokoumpo was a bright light for Greece while Nicolas Batum was sensational in the tournament for France. Dante Exum played with great poise for Australia.
