The NBA is a point guard driven league due to the depth and polished skill set of many at the position. Because of the demand of the position, we had to match it with demanding criteria when ranking our top five. Is the current career track of the player going up or down? Does he defend his position at a high level? Can he stay healthy? Does he make his teammates better? Can he play at a high level regardless of the tempo? After reflecting on those questions and more, we ranked the five point guards in the NBA:
#5 Damian Lillard
If you watched Lillard without knowing his age, you would assume he’s a seasoned NBA veteran. It’s amazing to see a player only two years into their NBA career play with such poise. Lillard improved across the board in his second NBA season, posting a chunky stat line of 21 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists per night. Lillard’s ability to knock down the three allows him to get to attack the rim with ease, as the crafty guard went to the charity stripe five times per game last year, 5th most among NBA point guards.
Jaw-Dropping Damian Lillard Highlights
One of Lillard’s greatest assets is his clutch leadership ability. Lillard rose to the occasion in the first round of the playoffs against Houston, hitting a game winner which propelled his team to the semi-finals. With a solid team built around him, expect Lillard to continue to rise up the rankings.
